چکیده : هدف از این تحقیق بررسی تاثیر دوسری از کتاب های رایج آموزش زبان انگلیسی در آموزشگاه های زبان بر مهارت گفتاری زبان آموزان مقطع مقدماتی می باشد. به منظور پاسخگویی به سوالات این تحقیق ٬ از میان 60 زبان آموز مقطع مقدماتی 30 نفر بصورت تصادفی انتخاب شدند که آن ها را به دو گروه 15 نفره تقسیم کردیم. به گروه اول کتاب مقدماتی فورکرنرز و به گروه دوم کتاب مقدماتی گات ایت تدریس شد. برای شرکت کنندگان 20 جلسه آموزش در نظرگرفته شد و جلسه اول به عنوان پیش آزمون و جلسه آخر به عنوان پس آزمون در نظر گرفته شد. نتیجه آزمون تی زوجی نشان داد آموزش این دو سری کتاب به شرکت کنندگان باعث تقویت مهارت گفتاری آنان به طرز چشمگیری در پس ازمون شد در حالیکه هیچکدام از کتاب ها اولویتی بر کتاب دیگر نداشت یعنی تاثیر هر دو کتاب بر مهارت گفتاری یکسان بود. نتیجه این تحقیق نشان می دهد که انتخاب یک کتاب خوب می تواند نقش موثری در موفقیت شرکت کنندگان داشته باشد. به علاوه از شرکت کنندگان خواسته شد که به یک پاسخنامه درباره ی این دوسری کتاب پاسخ دهند. پاسخنامه شامل سوالاتی در زمینه ظاهر کتاب٬ جلد کتاب، تصاویر و رنگ کتاب ٬موضوعات٬ لغات و گرامرموجود در کتاب ٬تمارین و فعالیت های گفتاری ، شنیداری، نوشتاری و خواندن متون و فعالیت های زبانی بود که در هر دو گروه، زبان آموزان نقطه نظرات بسیار مثبتی راجع به سوالات داشتند. برای مثال ظاهر کتاب بسیار جذاب بود. تمارین کتاب ها به اندازه کافی بودند و فعالیت های زبانی تاثیر بسزایی در یادگیری داشتند.

Title : Comparing the Effect of Four Corners Series and Got it Series on Improving Speaking in Elementary Classes

Abstract : The present study was intended to compare the effect of Four Corners series and Got it series on improving speaking in elementary classes. A group of 30 EFL learners were placed in two groups, namely the Four Corners experimental group (n=15) and Got it experimental group (n=15). In the former, teacher had the responsibility of teaching Four Corners elementary book. In the Got it experimental group, participants were taught Got it elementary book with the aim of enriching the class environment with high-quality language for grammar, vocabulary, and ideas. A pretest was conducted to make sure that participants were homogeneous in their level of proficiency. After the experiment, interviews were tape-and video-recorded and were then transcribed. Results of paired sample t-tests indicated that participants of both groups outperformed in posttest in speaking skill. Results showed that teaching Four Corners and Got it series did improve participants speaking skill. Comparing the results, it was also concluded that both series had the same effect on improving learners speaking skill. In addition, participants were asked to respond to a questionnaire asking about layout and physical make, subject matter, vocabulary, structures, exercises, and activities. The results showed that participants in both groups had positive attitude towards physical make, subject matter, vocabulary, structures, exercises, and activities. For example they all agreed that the exercises in the books were really helpful and the course books were appropriate for their level.
